Nurse Consultant, WABON Margaret Holm, JD, RN

Margaret Holm has worked as a Nurse Practice Consultant with the Washington Board of Nursing (WABON) since 2012. During her 40+ years as a nurse, she has worked in intensive care, psychiatric care, social services, home health, coronary care, medical-surgical, emergency, and rehabilitation care. She earned her Juris Doctor degree in 1982 and has worked as a Nurse Consultant, Health Law Judge, attorney, forensic nurse, and institutional review board member. She has also taught as an adjunct professor at several South Puget Sound colleges. She presents widely on issues related to the intersection of nursing and law, healthcare policy, regulation, and other practice and professional issues. Ms. Holm earned her ADN from Chicago City College, BA in Psychology from California State University at Northridge, and Juris Doctor from Seattle University (formerly University of Puget Sound) School of Law.

Nurse Consultant, WABON Shana Johnny, DNP, MN, RN

Dr. Johnny is a nurse practice consultant with the Washington State Board of Nursing (WABON). Through educational presentations, she assists nurses, healthcare organizations, administrators, the public, and interested parties in understanding nursing statutes and regulations. Dr. Johnny brings a wealth of nursing experience to WABON. She has served in several roles, applying expertise from nursing practice, public health, and nursing regulations. Before 2017, she was a public health nurse consultant with the Department of Health, Office of Immunization. Ms. Johnny also served as an advisory member to numerous state and coalition boards, including the State’s Opioid Task Force, Suicide Prevention Task Force, and the Diversity and Inclusion Council. Dr. Johnny is part of a research team with the University of Washington School of Medicine, Biomedical Informatics Education, that examines insights concerning stigma processes in narrative data – characterized by setting, actors, and situations that will help inform and prioritize the design of stigma reduction interventions. Ms. Johnny earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing at the Linfield College in Oregon State, a Master of Nursing at the University of Washington, and a Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) in population health systems leadership from the University of Washington in Seattle.
